ブルースリー

1973年に亡くなったブルースリー。

彼のアメリカにおける貢献は大きいと言う言葉だけでは表現出来ない。

モロに人種差別を表に出していた時代のアメリカで右往左往しながら自分の時代を築いた。

残念ながら、これからという時に逝ってしまったブルース。

同じ武道を歩むものとして、そして、アメリカで生活をするアジア人として尊敬せずにはいられない人物です。

そんな彼のインタビューを入手しました。

ブルースリーは、母国語は広東語ですね。

しかし、ここまで英語を操ることが出来る。すばらしいと思います。

彼は勉強熱心でも知られていました。また、見ていただければ分かりますが、

非常に自信に満ち溢れています。自信の背景には並大抵ではない努力が隠されていることも

忘れてはいけません。

時間がかかりましたが、インタビューのスクリプトを作りました。

Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless – like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.

Here is natural instinct and here is control. You are to combine the two in harmony, now if you have one to the extreme, you will be very unscientific. If you have another to the extreme, you will become all of a sudden be a mechanical man.

you see, actually I do not teach, you know, Karate, because I do not believe in styles anymore… I do not believe that there is such thing as like Chinese way of fighting or Japanese way of fighting, or whatever way of fighting because…

if you do not have style, if you just say here I am, as a human being, how can I express myself? totally and completely…

I mean, that is the expression of the human body. I mean everything. I mean, you know, not just the hands.

If you’re talking about fighting – as it is – well then, baby you’d better train every part of your body!

When you do punch, now lean forward a little bit hoping not to hurt any camera angle. I mean, you gotta put the whole hip into it. And snap.

Martial Arts has a very very deep meaning as far as my life is concerned, because as an actor, as a martial artist, as a human being , all these I have learned from martial arts, to me, ok?

To me, ultimately, martial arts means honestly expressing yourself. I mean, it is easy for me to put on a show and be cocky. But to experience oneself honestly, not lying to oneself, and to express myself honestly, now that, my friend, is very hard to do.
